Scholarship Scam

January 5th, 2008

Studying at college is a real problem today. Everyone is worried: a future student, his/her parents and all the friends and relatives. There are numerous offers coming from everywhere, but be careful.

Be ready that many people will call you or send you an e-mail that you or your child have become a lucky guy and won an educational scholarship. But think it over before believe this happy news. Unfortunately most of such messages are scams only.

Millions of parents spend money believing the fortune is on their side, so pay attention to the problem not to feel sorry when you face the lie.

Speaking about the reasons why people are sending scams there may be called two the main ones: so that you’ll pay for something simply wasting your money; or getting your personal information abusing your identity.

Never tell the information like your credit card or bank account numbers when someone’s notifying you about some award/scholarship. Do not believe it!

Did you get a terrific offer to get a great scholarship simply paying the fee to enter? Be careful, it is another scam! Do not pay for things like that! Save your money. Such people are creating the ‘lotteries’ to get money. Then they find someone to award a scholarship have earned already big money from the entrance fees.

Generally and technically speaking there is nothing illegal about that. But don’t lie to yourself, it is a scam! If you want to try your fortune, test with the help of a lottery ticket; don’t forget that using this variant you are not to write any essays.

One of the proofs it is a scam may be the pressure on you to pay. Doesn’t it seem to be strange to you? Normal scholarships (read legitimate) have no time for pressure as the number of applicants is huge. They never guarantee you will certainly win, it is obvious and quite reasonable.
